summary

For most of the 20th century, the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church was the second largest Czech church, and it continues to be one of the most prominent religious organisations today. In many respects, it is unique in the world. Its creation a century ago was the greatest ecclesiastical schism within a single national community since the Reformation, and the Church has been undergoing a thought-provoking search process of its theological and spiritual identity. An Encyclopaedia of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church provides an insight into the general and, in particular, local and regional aspects of these efforts. It presents basic information on the origins and development of all the individual religious communities and other organisational structures within the Church. It also contains summarising chapters on its history, theology, and liturgics, the development of sacred architecture, and the changes in its membership base.
