summary
The relationship between innovations and institutions is commonly perceived as contrasting. Innovations tend to follow change and institutions stabilize the overall social situation. This book studies the assumption that relationships between innovation-oriented behavior and institutions are mutually conditioned and that both instances have an influence on one other. Innovative behavior and innovations place pressure on institutions and on changing them, while being supported and shaped by the institutional framework at the same time. The mutual nature of this relationship is mediated by knowledge and communication, which enhance the role of institutions, while at the same time problematizing them and representing a platform for seeking balance between the pressure for change and inclinations to social orderliness.
