summary

What is the Theatre of the Oppressed? What techniques does it use? How is a performance created and who are its non-actors and spect-actors?

The authors give answers to these and other questions from the perspective of the joker, who is a guide for theatre groups and a facilitator of Theatre of the Oppressed performances. His task is to cooperate with the group preparing the performance as well as with the spectators.

The book’s structure follows this arrangement. The description of the individual phases of the creation of a performance is complemented by interviews with other theatre artists and by specific examples from completed performances. In the second part of the book, six jokers, who actively use the method of Theatre of the Oppressed, share their experience.
