Případ Kondelík

This book is a collection of reflections on the popular novel which prompted fundamental discussions on the Czech national character. The author describes the positive and negative reactions following the first publication of the novel. In individual chapters, the hero of Ignat Hermann‘s book is confronted with other well-known figures from Czech literature which have become national symbols (e.g. Hašek‘s „the good soldier Švejk“). This thought provoking evaluation questions the typical everyday perspective on life frequently depicted in Czech novels.
