summary
A critical edition of Jiří Levý’s extensive classic work Czech Theories of Translation – the first history of translation in the national literature. It includes a study entitled “The Development of Translation Theories and Methods in Czech Literature” and an annotated selection of original essays by Czech translators and translation theorists from the late 15th century to the end of World War II – from the time of Hasištejnský of Lobkowitz through the early and late Czech National Revival to the translation personalities of the 19th century. The book is published in an unabridged form as an authentic version of the first-edition text (1957). The editors have updated the annotations and bibliography and included an introductory study that places Levý’s work in the national and international research context.
Published in two volumes. The table of contents, bibliography, and index are included in the first volume.
