This two-volume textbook is intended for students of biochemistry at medical faculties where this subject follows up on the course in chemistry. It contains an overview of the metabolism, chapters on breathing chain and aerobic phosphorylation followed by an exposition of the citric acid cycle, description of catabolism and anabolism of individual nutrients and building blocks in organisms. The knowledge of essential types of metabolism is then applied on individual tissues in organisms. This textbook of biochemistry textbook also provides detailed information concerning hormones. As part of the preparation for the second edition, the text was revised, with some parts being adjusted so that they accentuated more the relations between individual types of metabolism. Special attention was paid to the regulation of physiological actions and a new chapter on fatty issue and its metabolism was newly added.
