This richly documented book captures journalistic photography after two decades of digital dominance, when the situation around digital imaging has stabilized and it is possible to look back with hindsight. The authors describe the most well-known cases of photographic fraud in the classic and digital ages. They show some of the extreme possibilities of new technologies on examples from contemporary art using media images and they present the newly originating field of forensic image analysis and the role of the digital detective. They focus on case studies of selected scandals caused by the publication of manipulated or slightly modified photographs in the media. The final part of the book is dedicated to the normative regulation of individual media and organizations, and the ways in which the media have adapted their ethical codices and norms to the new situation.
