summary

Informational sources, the term we use for recorded knowledge, are no longer limited to just libraries and archives. Other examples of these are knowledge bases, bibliographic databases, authority record, thesauruses and other aids for searching, e-books, electronic magazines, email archives, documents generated by office software, records in transaction databases and data warehouses of enterprise informational systems and numerous other sources.
In this context, many questions arise: Is the organization of knowledge even possible? Or – is it possible to give order to something that comes into being entirely spontaneously? If it is impossible to influence the process by which information is created, how likely is it that we will succeed in organizing its results? And even if the organization of knowledge is possible, is it necessary? In the age of Google, is it necessary to organize information (respectively its sources)? And if so, is it possible to create a generalized theory for the specialized activity? It is precisely these questions that the presented monograph attempts to answer.
