summary

The source of many a fairy tale is a dream commonly reported by children, lost in history and later retold in various versions as part of folklore and possibly written down or transcribed by a story collector. The ideal configuration is parents telling or reading to a different child (their child) a fairy tale that they suspect might “haunt” that child’s mind. A fairy tale that the child might later dream of. In doing so, the parents induce a dream sequence in which the latent themes can be confronted and which usually has a happy ending.
