summary

This study focuses on the mental characteristics of top-level athletes – triathletes, trying to contribute to the area of mental determinants for selecting talented athletes, which has so far been only little researched.
The scholar gradually covers several areas, striving to find specific mental prerequisites which play a decisive role in crucial moments of athletic performances and to determine if there is a difference in the mindsets of winners and losers, men and women, younger and older athletes.
The scholar analyzes the personality structure, concentration and the use of speaking to oneself, also examining performance motivation, specifically in its individual dimensions and as a structural model. The last part focuses on the willingness to withstand critical individual endurance strain and compares the connection between subjective perception of the load intensity and a physiological response in triathletes and people who do not actively participate in sports, and their connection to performance motivation.
