summary

The monograph Type 2 Diabetes as a Current Health Policy Problem in the Czech Republic deals with the possibilities of applying behavioural tools to health policy (food nudges) in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2D). The aim of the book is to analyse the degree of acceptability of these interventions in patients with T2D, to evaluate their contribution to achieving remission of the disease and to improving the quality of life of patients, as well as to propose an appropriate systemic and procedural health policy model.
The empirical study was conducted at the Motol University Hospital and the Internistisch-diabetologische Praxis Zittau. Out of a total of 33 tested forms of food nudges, most were accepted by patients (87.8%), with results showing a positive effect of these interventions on the maintenance of T2D remission. In the Motol study, 11% of patients achieved excellent and 36% achieved satisfactory compensation, with an average weight loss of 3 kg. In Zittau, 57% of patients demonstrated satisfactory compensation with an average loss of nearly 5 kg. However, despite the positive effects on the physical health of the patients, the mental health area showed suboptimal results. The results of the study confirm that behavioural approaches can play an important role in public health management and may not only improve patients
‘ health but also result in potential savings in public healthcare expenditure.
