summary

Basic concepts and notions used in the field of international relations and applied world-wide are based on the main pillars of the Western intellectual tradition. The scholar focused on the notion of multilateralism as a suitable form of cooperation, subjecting it to a theoretical analysis, including the typology of reasons for its use. Through an analysis of the meaning of this notion in three countries, the United States of America, the European Union and Japan, based on different historical and cultural traditions, the scholar employs specific case studies (the War on Terror, the Kyoto Protocol and others) to identify different interpretations of multilateralism, reassessing them subsequently through theoretical approaches.
