Milan Klíma (* 1932) wanted to be an ornithologist, however, he transferred from the Institute for the Research of Vertebrae Biology in Brno to Frankfurt, where he would lecture at the Medical School for more than forty years, maturing into a figure essential for every academic institutions. His fascination for the anatomy of living organisms led to published discoveries in many disciplines (including embryology and cetology) as well as to illustrated books and works of art. Klíma’s look back at the many encounters with his colleagues, students and specific problems and scientific tasks shows the world of natural sciences as a beautiful and adventurous area of human knowledge which leads us to the fundamental questions of human existence.
