A History of Music in Outlines

Textbook A History of Music in Outlines was written as an useful help for foreign undergraduate students at the Faculty of Education of Charles University in Prague. The book traces the development of music from the earliest periods to the present, discusses the monographs of individual artists within the social environment, characterizes the differences in styles and compositional techniques, and the reasons for and necessity of change. Particular attention is paid to Czech music, of which there is no more recent elaboration in English. Twentieth-century music, the existing literature on which is also quite limited, is mentioned in some detail. The work is based on the methods of musicology, which the author tries to present in an accessible form.
