An accesible and readable manual which provides a basic orientation of latin roman culture. The author concentrates above all on the Roman traditions which influenced further development of European culture and which we still meet today. The characteristics of individual parts of culture (drama, art, architecture, music etc.) contain e.g. explanations of Latin language (famous inscriptions and quotations), Roman numbers, calendar, law and rhetorics. Each chapter also includes recommended further literature. The text is accompanied by useful tables presenting, among other things, Roman history in dates and a chronological list of Roman emperors.
