summary

The BOAR project is an anthropological study of veterinarian knowledge and skills that go beyond animal health. It aims to examine the increasing role of veterinary science in facilitating interactions between humans and wild animals and in structuring and governing society by implementing biosecurity measures. In particular, the project focuses on the ways in which recreational hunting communities, self-appointed managers of wild pig populations are becoming key actors in veterinary interventions. The members of the BOAR team carry out a joint ethnographic research project exploring the relationship between three under-researched areas in anthropology: veterinary medicine, hunting in Europe, and wild pigs.
