The book contains a series of eight lectures delivered by the Learned Society of the Czech Republic between 2021 and 2024 on war and violence, which have unfortunately become unexpectedly relevant. Religion, discussed in some of the lectures, has often played a direct or indirect role in past as well as current armed conflicts. The book explains the Old Testament perspective on this topic, provides insights into the role of religion in the development of the Scandinavian state, and discusses China’s violent land reform. The concluding remarks were written by a philosopher from Kyiv, who reflects on the significance of Ukraine’s struggle for freedom for the European continent.
