This publication presents four essential types of problems prevalent in the German educational system, which are relevant also to the development of Czech education: a) evaluation of the educational system and educational institutions, b) early support for children and pupils, c) immigrants, d) teaching foreign languages to German children and to the children of immigrants. These problems are placed into the wider context of information on the Federal Republic of Germany, its educational policy, educational system and empirical research of school education in Germany. In the last chapter, the foreign co-author reflects on the topics elaborated in the previous chapters and briefly presents some other current problems of German educational policy, providing an “insider” view of the problems, complementing the “outsider” views by the Czech authors. The book also contains both implicit and explicit comparison to the Czech school system.
