summary

The book is intended for skiing experts, trainers, instructors, students of physical education and also the general public. It brings information about skiing equipment and apparel – how these influence a skier's movement. It presents the human body as a system of motion and mentions a person's motor and functional prerequisites for downhill skiing. It provides a comprehensive and comprehensible exposition of the core biomechanical principles of downhill skiing, which are derived from basic principles of physics. Several chapters are devoted to the biomechanics of downhill and curve skiing. Emphasis is placed on the modern forms of carving technique in skiing. At the same time an effort is made to describe as objectively as possible the various techniques of passing through the skiing arc itself, as well as the various techniques of transition between individual arcs and the several variants of techniques that an advanced skier should possess. Although the monograph is aimed primarily at basic skiing, some passages also tangentially touch on competitive skiing.
