summary
A detailed, yet intentionally non-exhaustive insight into contemporary French philosophy presents the thought of seven authors – Jean-Luc Marion, Jean-Luc Nancy, Bernard Stiegler, Catherine Malabou, Jacques Rancière, Alain Badiou, and François Laruelle – all of whom reject the poststructuralist generation and linguistic paradigm, focus on biology, and share materialist thinking. The philosophers proceed from the assumption that the destruction or deconstruction of metaphysics, subjectivity, or traditional concepts of being, truth, and knowledge is necessary (and has not been accomplished), but it is not sufficient to cope with what is required of contemporary thinking. In their view, subjectivity, ontology, truth, epistemology, universality, ethics, and politics need to be revisited from scratch in an affirmative and constructive rather than deconstructive manner.
