summary

In his new books, Aleš Haman, a literary scientist, historian and critic, emeritus professor of aesthetics at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, includes texts that from the late 1950s to the present day focused on the works of the "three perennial stars" of Czech literature of the past two centuries: Jan Neruda, Karel Čapek and Milan Kundera. "Essays devoted to the fiction of these three literary figures aim to demonstrate what constitutes their prominent position not only within Czech but also international fiction, what in their work may represent important landmarks in the development of our fiction to modern literature," says the scholar in his introduction.
