summary

From the English original translated by František Koukolík.
This book by Ekhonon Goldberg, a professor of clinical neurology of New York University School of Medicine, discusses the development and changes of human consciousness in the course of human life. The topic of aging of the brain is first viewed from the psychological point of view, where he shows the resistance to effects of attrition due to age in the lives of selected historical figures. The more technical part of the book then covers the brain's integration, structure and functions and its functional disorders. The book closes with a detailed explanation of the wisdom paradox - the more a healthy and naturally aging brain exerts itself, the more efficient it becomes.
