summary
Understanding a phenomenon, which has accompanied humankind for two millennia and which is one of the basic determinants of history, is not an easy task. This phenomenon is Christianity and Professor Otakar A. Funda is the scholar who has devoted his whole life to it. He had to overcome many obstacles along the way, from open animosity through open misunderstanding, but his persistence bore fruit not only in the form of his texts, particularly Christianity, a Phenomenon of Human History and Culture (1992), Faith without Religion (1994), Between Faith and Rationality (2003) and particularly Jesus and the Christ Myth (2007), but also through many students he influenced and introduced to this quest. In this book, to which one of his youngest students contributed significantly, he returns to the key phase in the history of Christianity, to its origins and its early period. Funda and his co-author summarize their thoughts and interpretations of the topic, while bringing them up to date through referencing contemporary contexts. Thus they demonstrate that it is still a topic that is open and alive.
