summary

The evolution of information and communication technologies (ICT) radically transforms not only how we understand the world and how we communicate with one another, but also the way we look at ourselves and how we understand our own nature, existence and responsibility. The expansion of ICT thus represents the fourth revolution in the long process of re-evaluating the underlying essence and the role of humanity in the universe: as mankind, we are not forming the stationary center of the universe (the Copernican Revolution), we are not remarkably different from the rest of the animal world (Darwinian Revolution), and we are far from being able to see into our own consciousness clearly (the Freudian Revolution). ICT are now showing us that we are not merely isolated, disconnected actors, but rather information organisms that, together with other types of these actors, share the global environment, ultimately shaped by information, the so-called infosphere (Turing Revolution).
