summary
Image and Power consists of two complementary parts, a synoptic essay and interviews with French thinkers. The first part introduces the complex relations between images and power in French thinking at the turn of the 21st century. It aims to justify interdisciplinary research and present the context of influential academic polemics and views of the relation between image and power as observed by the scholar as part of her contemporary philosophical and social research in France. The second part of the book features seven unique interviews the scholar held with prominent figures of contemporary French philosophy (Georges Didi-Huberman, Marie-José Mondzain, Jacques Rancière, Pierre Lévy), sociology (Michel Maffesoli), anthropology (Marc Augé) and media history (Monique Sicard). To facilitate easier orientation, each interview is introduced by an informational lead paragraph on the interviewed thinkers. This scholarly reflection provides a unique opportunity to learn about views of selected representatives of French image theory. It interlinks various contemporary scholarly perspectives in a pluralistic dialogue in order to reflect current sharing of visibility as a policy of the visualization of the invisible from multiple perspectives.
