Uhlíkové nanomateriály

This book deals with the biomedical applications of carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) and the assessment of their potential health risks. It is divided into a theoretical part, summarizing the available information on the biomedical use of carbon nanomaterials, their toxicokinetics, biological interactions and potential hazards (toxicity), and a practical part, consisting of the research results of the author’s team in the field of nanoparticle hazard testing. The potential hazards of nanoparticles include respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, skin, ocular, reproductive and developmental toxicity as well as hepatotoxicity, neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, genotoxicity and urinary toxicity. The results of research conducted by the Institute of Medical Biology and Genetics, the Institute of Histology and Embryology, the Institute of Medical Biophysics, the Institute of Clinical Allergy and Immunology and the Institute of Preventive Medicine (departments of the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové and Hradec Králové University Hospital) are described here. In the appendix, a set of optimized methodologies for testing cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and immunotoxicity of nanoparticles is presented.
