summary

The publication provides a comprehensive description of the extensive research carried out at the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem in the years 2019–2022 by a multi-disciplinary team comprised of mathematicians, statisticians and a psychologist. The monograph contains a total of seven chapters, which after an introduction and an explanation of theoretical approaches provides an overview of eight indicators describing the preconditions of a pupil for resolving tasks in mathematics: mathematical sensitivity, mathematical creativity, reading, arithmetical skills, working memory, tendency for using algorithms, self-evaluation and motivation for learning mathematics. The main output of the project is a certified diagnostic set (this is a part of the monograph) which enables a teacher to establish the possible risks that could prevent a pupil from successfully solving mathematical tasks. The consequences for teaching praxis, in particular tips for work with pupils with the aim of reducing risks, are described in the concluding chapter of the monograph.
