Historicus inter saecula movens

A book of contributions celebrating Professor Jiří Pešek’s milestone birthday shows his wide range of research interests and, for the first time, provides a complete bibliography of his work. The introductory sections, which summarise Pešek’s career to date and are partially retrospective, are followed by twenty-five contributions from Czech and foreign authors, divided into three sections. The first one is devoted to the history of Prague University and the cultural history of Czech cities in the late Middle Ages and the early modern period, while the second section deals with similar topics in the 19th and 20th centuries. The third section of the book manifests Pešek’s long-standing academic interest in German and Austrian history and includes several contributions from his international colleagues, whose research, by contrast, frequently focuses on the Czech lands.
