summary

The monograph examines the life and work of the Catholic theologian Antonín Salajka (1901–1975), the first Czechoslovak graduate of the Pontificio Istituto Orientale in Rome and an expert on Eastern Orthodox theology. At the core of the book is an analysis of Salajka’s ecclesiology and his definition of the Church, which also consisted of the Gordian knot of ecumenism. The author explores Salajka’s idea of the unification of all Christian churches based on a careful definition of what the Church is, and places it within the context of the exclusivist Roman Catholic theology of the time.
