The book explores the constructive use of ideas drawn from various forms of collective memory theory in biblical studies and engages in critical dialogue with them. Its thirteen chapters discuss theoretical philosophical questions and present various attempts to apply them to biblical texts, the history of Israel, and early Christianity. The book provides insight into the possible contributions of collective memory theory to biblical studies as well as its limitations.
