summary

Czech Drama Today brings forward nine interviews with contemporary Czech playwrights. The presented book resulted from the meetings which took place at the Department of Theatre Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Charles University, Prague in the fall term 2010. Czech drama and theatre of the last fifty years becomes here a collective landscape which is being shared and discussed by David Drábek, Daniela Fischerová, Arnošt Goldflam, Václav Havel, David Jařab, Iva (Volánková) Klestilová, Roman Sikora, Milan Uhde and Jan Vedral.
The book offers authentic opinions of the playwrights who talk about their relationship to theatre and writing, and share their experiences and views on current, as well as past theatrical and historical events. In many cases, the book includes testimonies which have never been published before. The team of editors believes that the book will be stimulating and useful for a wide range of readers.
