What do we understand today by the term “spiritual experience” within the Christian tradition? What criteria distinguish it from other forms of human experience? And is every experience in the realm of spirituality truly “spiritual”? This collective monograph examines the phenomenon of Christian spiritual experience within a theological framework, linking historical explorations with the challenges posed by contemporary spiritual theology. The introductory study and the following eight chapters attempt to lead a dialogue not only between the spiritual experience of the Christian East and West, but also between theological tradition and the thinking of the contemporary (post)secular world.
