summary

The new edition of the documents from 1848-1860 (first edition in 1893), prepared by the writer and secretary of the Museum of Czech Kingdom Jan M. Černý, contains more than 300 political texts. They provide unmediated information on the changes occurring in the Hapsburg state and on the formation of the modern Czech society, its politics in 1848 and the later periods. The first part of the book contains documents from the revolutionary year of 1848 and the year of 1849, from the events set off by the assembly in the St. Wenceslas Baths (March 1848) to the dissolution of the constituent imperial assembly on March 7, 1849. The second part is devoted to the 1850s, that is, to the so-called Bach's absolutism. The author provides a brief historical explanation to every document. Published as part of the Sources of the History of Czech Thought series.
