Historian Jaroslav Čechura has been exploring everyday life in the South-Bohemian countryside for many years. In this book he looks at the period of the Thirty Year’s War. The turbulent events reflected in everyday life of peasants on homesteads of the Třeboň demesne are described thanks to the scholar’s work of different types of sources, including land registers, register of serfs, population registers, serfdom discharges, land and duty registers, ego-documents and corvée registers. Careful heuristics allows him to present the fates of individuals, but also to draw general patterns of behavior of the serfs and demesne administration.
