summary
This publication, work of several scholars from the Department of Swimming Sports, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Charles University, is intended for students of physical education and sport as well as anyone interested in teaching swimming. The text consists of three parts, which cover swimming literacy, swimming style techniques and didactics of swimming strokes.
The first part characterizes requirements for achieving competence in swimming to ensure the life-long ability to move around in aquatic environments. The second part is conceived as a necessary theoretical background for the didactics of swimming strokes. This section newly contains model techniques adequate for the developmental stages of children, the front crawl stroke and the child back stroke. The third section, which contains numerous illustrations, covers the didactics of all swimming strokes, falls, jumps and flip turns, and now contains the training and development of self-preservation techniques and the use of synchronized swimming in swimming instruction.
