Male dominance is so deeply embedded in our social practices and our unconscious that we hardly notice it. It is so consistent with our expectations that we find it difficult to question it. An analysis of how this society works helps us understand the most hidden aspects of gender relations in our own societies and male dominance as a prime example of symbolic violence, a subtle, invisible, and ubiquitous form of violence exercised through the everyday practices of social life.
