The first part of the book covers the rules determining the school's operation and community life. The second chapter deals with the structure of the Jesuit pre-higher education system and all of the basic principles used in instruction; the author for instance elaborates on the theatre and its importance in Jesuit educational system. The third part presents both a regular day and a feast day at a Jesuit grammar school, describing students' and teachers' routines, both specific and shared. The book focuses mainly on a Jesuit grammar school (Prague's Clementinum) in a relatively quiet period of 1650-1730.
