summary

The book is a sequel to A History of Ethical Theories from Kant to Pragmatism (2020) and together with A History of Ethical Theories I (from the classical era to the end of the 18th century) (2004) it traces the development of European ethical thinking from Ancient Greece to the end of the 20th century.
The book discusses ethical systems envisioned by the following authors: Bergson, Buber, Camus, Dilthey, Gadamer, Heidegger, Jaspers, Jonas, Lévinas, Lipovetsky, MacIntyre, Marcel, Sartre, Scheler, Spaemann, and Tugendhat. The selection reflects the need to understand the typical forms of ethics in the 20th century, including their connection to the preceding and possibly the following centuries. Readers can gain basic knowledge of the history of ethics and understand how ethics can be integrated into the development of philosophy and culture in Europe.
