summary

As indicated by the title, the book contains two studies in the field of historiography. The first one focuses on late medieval official historiography, which was written at the behest of rulers and leaders of states and cities and served to legitimize their rule, justify their policies, and provide ideological propaganda. The author examines the position of official historians in different environments, at the courts of the monarchy and nobility, in Italian urban communes, and in wealthy imperial cities, describing the conditions in which they worked and, where sources allow, how they were remunerated.
The second study deals with the nowadays not very well-known, but popular in the late Middle Ages, Cronica Boemorum Anonymi (The Chronicle of the Bohemians), which gives a brief overview of Czech history from its mythical beginnings to the threshold of the Hussite Revolution.
