summary

The book offers a critical reflection on the concept of resilience in the context of the current crisis of democracy. It shows that resilience has become a key albeit controversial term, which in neoliberal discourse often supports the individualization of responsibility and the depoliticization of social problems. However, the authors do not stop at criticism, but develop an alternative concept of political resilience. They start from the conviction that democracy in an era of complexity and uncertainty cannot rely solely on the stability or robustness of institutions, but requires a collective process of creative and reflective adaptation. In addition to institutional change, this also includes the affective capacities of citizens and the democratic ethos as such. Democratic resilience is thus understood neither as a management technique nor as a survival strategy, but as a way to maintain an open space for criticism, cooperation, and shared political action.
