This book offers a commentary to Machiavelli’s The Prince, which is possibly the most well-known work on political theory. The exposition presents the main ideas and concepts of Machiavelli’s political thought and their historical, ideological and literary context. Machiavelli is depicted as a representative of aesthetic political theory, which emphasizes the role of sensual perception over speech as a pre-condition to an existence of a political society. In addition, the book addresses Machiavelli’s specific concept of social conflict and his criticism of oligarchy. The publication of this study coincides with the publication of a new translation of The Prince.
