Risk Society by Ulrich Beck is one of the most prominent books dealing with this topic written in the past thirty years. It has had an influence on the ways other scholars think and how the issue is globally regarded. For many, Beck has become an embodiment of a novel approach of sociology to ecology. In his works, he discusses the existence of limits to growth and seeks to demonstrate how this is mirrored in modern society, which is co-determined and constantly reproduced by its very nature. Beck’s notion of the risk society has become well established in international sociology, as it provides a thought-provoking contribution to the ongoing debate on the true nature of modernity and the overall meaning of modernisation.
