This book of essays came into the world thanks to a project coordinated by Petr Pokorný. The aim of the project was to examine the biblical roots of Christian culture, the planned outcome being a coherent collective monograph. Prof. Pokorný’s sudden passing at the beginning of 2020 made it impossible to finish the project according to plan. Thus, the outcome is rather a free collection of studies that deal with various aspects of the Bible and Christianity and their relation to culture. The first part discusses special biblical topics, the second part provides insights into the historical, philosophical, and cultural background. The book features two essays written by Prof. Pokorný himself, and the whole publication is a tribute to him.
