summary
Notes to Literature contains texts written by Theodor Adorno mostly in the 1950s. These are essays that create new rules of literary criticism and interpretation. In them we find both works devoted to authors such as Eichendorff, Beckett, Proust or Valéry, which represent a reflective relationship to the intellectual past, and also more general texts focused on the mutual interconnection of the aesthetic and the social. Over the course of these texts Adorno forms a number of his key philosophical convictions. In view of the emphasis that Adorno places on the essay form, Notes to Literature cannot be perceived merely as a supplement to his more extensive work – on the contrary, it represents one of Adorno's most successful attempts at bridging the gap between literary criticism and constructive philosophy.
