Zvuková báze řečové komunikace (Aural basis of speech communication) presents the most recent information on the phonetic and phonological description of speech to Czech readers. Striving to offer a complex view of language sound systems, it focuses on segmental and prosodic phenomena from several complementary perspectives. It covers the articulation system of speech, acoustic and psycho-acoustic properties of the speech signal. The description of the segmental level focuses on vowel and consonant systems as well as on interactions which occur in continuous speech. The text also presents a thorough systemic (phonological) approach to segmental units and systematic processes. The description of the suprasegmental level is based on a syllable as the key unit of speech production and perception. The prosodic structure of speech, lexical stress and melodic rhythmical properties of speech are emphasized as well. The book sets as one of its goals the unification of the ambivalent terminology of sciences focusing on speech.
