summary
The first volume of this modern quantum theory textbook in two volumes presents a comprehensive and independent introduction to the non-relativistic quantum theory, which will guide the reader from formal theory construction to archetypal problems, theory of symmetry and spin in outer fields. It also contains an introduction to the relativist theory of the electron for the study of atomic systems. The book concludes with chapters on the mathematical apparatus of quantum mechanics, bordering on “physical” and mathematical accuracy. The presented theory is illustrated on a quantum-mechanic description of many problems and examples of relevant experiments.
The book is intended for students of post-graduate and doctoral study in the area of atomic systems and solid-state physics.
In compiling this book, the scholars employed their long-term experience in lecturing in quantum theory at Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno, at the Czech Academy of Sciences, as well as abroad.
The second volume focuses primarily on the multi-particle theory of atomic systems.
