summary

This book is devoted to the early poetic and partially also artistic works of one of the most significant 20th-century Russian poets, Vladimir V. Mayakovsky (1893–1930), which is viewed not from the perspective of literature but rather through linguistics. Selected poems by Mayakovsky from 1920 and his posters from the same period are subjected to linguistic analysis, paying special attention to the predominant features of the author’s work of this period: pronouns, metaphor and the use of forceful slogans which appear both in Mayakovsky’s literary and artistic works. This book, which is one of the first linguistic probes into Mayakovsky’s work in the Czech research context, displays its ambitions to reveal the potential that linguistic analysis offers in deciphering poetic texts in general.
